War Widows Association,
New Delhi, India

VISION & MISSION

The mission of the War Widows Association (WWA) is to ensure for widows of war and armed conflict their human rights to live a respectful life even after their loved ones are no more. This involves a continuous struggle to provide economic and emotional support, guidance and assistance to war widows so that they can be comfortably rehabilitated in the society. WWA works for the welfare of the war affected families. We guide and advise family members to become economically independent. We generally do all such things as may be incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objective

The basic aim of the Organization is to enable social, financial and emotional support to the wives and children of the brave hearts who made the supreme sacrifice and laid down their lives for the nation. WWA provides sufficient succor both emotional and financial to a large number of women and children (i.e. widows and offspring of martyred soldiers) who lost their means of livelihood. Many a times we experience difficulty in locating and getting the details of the parents /widows of deceased defense personnel as they often reside in remote areas and villages. To overcome this problem War Widows Association takes the help of Rajya Sainik and Zilla Sainik Board countrywide.

As per the practice the following matters are addressed by the War Widows Association:

  • Providing adequate support to the war widows and taking up their issues with the Government including problems of women whose husbands are /were missing in action.
  • Rehabilitation of families has always been a major concern.
  • Enabling war widows and their children to get their entitlements as per Government Rules enforceable after the death of defense personnel of all categories.
  • Advocate with the government for better and all round uniform policy for the rehabilitation of the families of all affected defense personnel.
  • Interacting with Ex-servicemen’s League and Zila Sainik Boards to get concrete information about widows who need attention and become partners with them, thus providing necessary services.

The WWA constantly organizes and volunteers several programmes or activities to achieve their objectives of welfare and providing support to the Veer Naries and their families. To make it possible the following activities are undertaken

  • Programs under the Dialogue Centre such as meetings, workshops and seminars on various concerned issues are organized to provide information to widows of war and conflict and other members. Similar programs are also sometimes organized in other places, if required.
  • Programs and seminars pertaining to awareness about health and legal matters to provide information to war affected widows regarding their rights and entitlements.
  • Organizing recreational and cultural activities.
  • Arrange skill training centers for empowerment of widows to support them financially and also for the elderly and young children in the family
