Shri Soli J. Sorabjee , Eminent Jurist and Shri Murlidhar Bhandare, Former Governor of Odissa were the Chief Guests for the programme. The war widows and other members and guests from Meerut, Bulandshahr, Faridabad Jhajjar, Kargil Awas, New Delhi and other dignitaries from Delhi & NCR attended the function. The function started with paying tribute to the memory of the martyrs who laid down their lives while defending the nation, by placing wreaths on the ‘gun and helmet’, the symbol which was used by WWA as its logo.
A major excitement for the audience was the screening of the documentary called “Seeds of War to Flowers of Peace” on the five decades of the War Widows Association, specially prepared for the occasion by the renowned director Ms. Meera Dewan. Tracing the history and the growth of the organisation, this documentary captures the pain, trauma and uncertainty of the war widows and how they overcame these challenges. Meera Dewan interviewed some of the widows who were able to express their journey of empowerment from 1962 till date, as members of the War Widows Association.
