Special Event in 2016

‘Veer Nari Samman Samaroh -2016’

The Veer Nari Samman Sammaroh was organized by War Widows Association on 6th August 2016 at India International Centre, 40 Max Mueller Marg, New Delhi at 11:00am in the Multi Purpose Hall, to honour two veer naris for their extraordinary display of immense courage in the face of the most gruelling of circumstances. The Association has honoured Mrs Damayanti V Tambay w/o late Flt. Lt Vijay Vasant Tambay and Capt Priya Semwal w/o late L/Nk Amit Sharma of 14 Rajput Regiment, to celebrate their immense courage, their ‘never say die spirit’ and their zest to take challenges head on in spite of their widowhood.
The decision to honour these and such outstanding women was taken in the WWA Executive Committee meeting held on Nov 2, 2015 and pursuant to that, this function was held.
Shri Soli J. Sorabjee , Eminent Jurist and Shri Murlidhar Bhandare, Former Governor of Odissa were the Chief Guests for the programme. The war widows and other members and guests from Meerut, Bulandshahr, Faridabad Jhajjar, Kargil Awas, New Delhi and other dignitaries from Delhi & NCR attended the function. The function started with paying tribute to the memory of the martyrs who laid down their lives while defending the nation, by placing wreaths on the ‘gun and helmet’, the symbol which was used by WWA as its logo.
A major excitement for the audience was the screening of the documentary called “Seeds of War to Flowers of Peace” on the five decades of the War Widows Association, specially prepared for the occasion by the renowned director Ms. Meera Dewan. Tracing the history and the growth of the organisation, this documentary captures the pain, trauma and uncertainty of the war widows and how they overcame these challenges. Meera Dewan interviewed some of the widows who were able to express their journey of empowerment from 1962 till date, as members of the War Widows Association.
