CSW-57- NEW YORK- 2013

Interacting with Regional Organizations Working with War Widows:
  • The President WWA , Mrs J Gurmit Singh participated in the CSW 57 and highlighted the condition of widows of war and conflict in India and the resultant problems faced by their families. She highlighted the role of WWA in the process of empowering war widows and influencing government policy and programs with regard to widows affected by conflict and war.
  • Four posters were developed for the purpose of highlighting the work with widows in India.

3RD GLOBAL WOMEN DELIVER CONFERENCE HELD AT KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

Interacting with Regional Organizations Working with War Widows:
  • Women Deliver, is a global advocacy organization bringing together voices from around the world to call for action to improve the health and well-being of girls and women. This 3rd Global Conference was held from 28 to 30 May, 2013 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The conference was to accelarate progress to meet the goals of equality in all sectors. This required joint forces and working in collaboration, across sectors, genders, and generation and around the world.
  • The General Secretary, WWA, India, Mrs Damayanti V Tambay was given an opportunity to speak on the conditions of war widows in India. She highlighted the lack of sensitivity in the government for the defence personnel missing-in-action and their wives and children. No definite systems were in place , in the government to trace and bring back such missing officers of 1971 and 1965 wars with Pakistan, despite irrefutable evidences.
  • Similar problems were seen in other countries and joint action was suggested to address the issue.

59th Session -CSW 2015

Ms. Meera Khanna as member of WWA attended on behalf of the War Widows Association in the 59th session of the Commission on the Status of Women in New York from 9 March to 15 March 2015. She made an appraisal of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in the context of opportunities for strengthening gender equality and the empowerment of women and widows in the post-2015 development agenda.

Consultation on National Policy for Widows

Interactive meetings between five hundred war widows and the Defence Minister, the Director General of Resettlement , Senior Defence Officers to work out a policy for providing necessary measures and quick disbursement of pensions , other support services and entitlements for dependence. This advocacy is continuing.

Celeberating Vijay Divas and Observing International Women's Day:

We celeberate Vijay Divas on the 16th of Decemper and Women's Day on the 8th of March

On Women's Day the guild of service led an interfaith prayer meeting Amar at Jawan Jyoti.

The guild of service organizes group marriages, twice a year for couples from underviliged sections of society.

Interacted with Kargil widows at Shaheed Bhawan. War Widows association helped in some special cases.
